I think the alphabet could work really well as a theme, especially if you like street photography.
I like the idea of the cards, but i think it would work better if you had taken a photo of your friends playing cards, so that the letters are present but not necessarily the whole focus of the photo.

I am sure there is great mileage in such a theme especially if you aim to be less literal thereby making the viewer think about the image, keep it up
